Lion Dance
DALT
The Nanyang Girls’ High School Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe was established in 1984, as part of the school’s National Police Cadet Corps.
In 2008, the troupe became an independent CCA and they are proud to be the one and only all-girls secondary school dragon and lion dance troupe in Singapore.
Find out more about the CCA on our e-open house website!
CNY 2021
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Cai Qing 2021 was a smaller affair. Members had the opportunity to perform with a pair of live lions and two "big head" dolls around the school.
Additionally, we also pre-recorded two separate performances. One was a pair of lions and the second was our dragon performance.
DALT looks forward to all future performances.
CNY 2020
NYGH DALT managed a successful CNY Cai Qing season in 2020 which included:
点睛 performance for our new pink lions during NYGH CNY celebrations
菜青 performances within the Nanyang family for Nanyang Kindergarten, NYGH Canteen
external 菜青 performances at housing estates and at Bukit Timah CC where Minister Sim Ann was the GOH
This success is credited to the hard work put in by every DALT member that juggled their lessons, training and performances during this busy period. The NYGH DALT troupe were led by the superb leadership of the DALT EXCO members. Thank you! <3
CNY 2019
NYGH DALT managed a successful CNY Cai Qing season in 2019 which included:
点睛 performance for our new orange lions during NYGH CNY celebrations
菜青 performances within the Nanyang family for Nanyang Kindergarten, Nanyang Primary and NYGH Canteen
external 菜青 performances at various agencies not limited to Bukit Timah CC and Farrer Park Hospital
15th NTU Inter-School Competition 2019
The NYGH DALT troupe has been competing regularly in the NTU inter-school lion dance competition.
2019 marks the first year I was personally involved in watching the students train and compete after joining the school in late 2018.
Some context
As a previous member of NUS lion dance, it is with great pride that I am also the teacher i/c of the lion dance troupe in NYGH.
Though not related to Biology in any way, I have dedicated a subpage on my website to the adventures of my NYGH students in lion dance.
I hope they enjoy their time in their CCA as much as I enjoyed mine as a student years ago and have many happy memories to look back on.
2005 Takashimaya Finals
NUS competed in the traditional lion dance category during the Takashimaya finals. I was privileged to represent my school and be part of the team as a cymbals player. Fond memories of many, many hours of training.
2007 Zonal Competition
NUS led an (almost) all girl team in 2007 in the zonal competition. The lions were my female team mates who also performed a short wuhu segment in the middle; I was playing the drums. I do not remember much except being really nervous.
